Foreground and background layers with safe zones

Android adaptive icons are built from two layers: a foreground with your logo and a background fill. Launchers crop these layers into different shapes, so the important part of the icon must stay inside the central safe zone. This free tool exports a transparent foreground PNG, a background PNG, and a composite preview so you can drop the layers straight into your Android project.

Combine it with the Web App Manifest Generator and Apple Touch Icon Generator to ship consistent icons across Android, iOS, and the web.

How it works

  1. 1 Upload your logo as an SVG, PNG, or JPG file.
  2. 2 Choose the background color and adjust the safe zone scale.
  3. 3 Preview the icon under circle, squircle, rounded, and square masks.
  4. 4 Download the foreground, background, and composite icons as a ZIP.

Features

  • Foreground + background layers Exports the two separate layers Android needs for an adaptive icon.
  • Safe zone control Adjust how much of the canvas your logo fills so launchers never crop key details.
  • Live mask previews See how the icon looks as a circle, squircle, rounded square, and full square.
  • Composite preview Get a flattened ic_launcher preview plus a one-click ZIP of every layer.

What you can use it for

  • Ship a proper adaptive icon for an Android app or PWA.
  • Make sure your logo looks right in every launcher shape.
  • Avoid cropped or off-center icons on modern Android devices.
  • Match your Android icon to your iOS and web branding.

Android Adaptive Icon Generator FAQ

What size are adaptive icon layers?

Adaptive icon layers use a 108dp canvas, commonly exported at 432x432 pixels. This tool exports both layers at that resolution.

Why are there two layers?

Android keeps the foreground and background separate so it can apply motion and crop the icon into different shapes per device without distorting your logo.

What is the safe zone?

The safe zone is the central area (about 66dp of 108dp) that is always visible. Keep your logo inside it so it is never cut off by a mask.

Can I use a transparent background?

The background layer is meant to be a solid fill. The foreground is exported with transparency so the background shows through.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The layers are generated locally in your browser and never uploaded.

Is it free?

Yes, the Android adaptive icon generator is completely free with no limits.
